Information about Dental Crowns
What is Dental Crown?
Dental crown, also only called as “cap”, is a tooth-shaped cap that is used to cover or save a damaged tooth by completely encircling it. It is an ideal and easiest way to repair teeth that have been broken or weakened. A dental crown is also needed for such reasons:
- To protect a weak tooth from breaking,
- To restore an already broken tooth,
- To cover and support a tooth with a large filling,
- To hold a dental bridge in place,
- To cover a dental implant,
- To make a cosmetic modification.
Dental crowns may be porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM), all-metal, all-resin or all-ceramic. Patients may choose among these materials depending on their preferences or budget. According to American Dental Association, there are advantages and disadvantages for each type, you should discuss the details with your dentist.
TYPES OF CROWNS
Metal Fused
Metal Porcelain Crowns also known as PFM are the product of a marriage between porcelain and metal Crowns. They are hard-wearing and cosmetically sound, but are not suitable for all people or all positions within the dental area. The core of the Crown itself is usually made from a nickel based grey metal with an overlay of white porcelain fused to the outside in order to give a white natural and tooth like appearance. Unfortunately, even though considered to be very durable, should your gums recede over time you may see a black line along the top of your gum line when you smile. If you choose Metal Porcelain Crowns we recommend that you replace them after 6-7 years to maintain the health of your teeth and gums. They are most suitable for use on the side or back teeth and for use over Dental Implants.
Zirconia Fused Crowns
Cubic Zirconia dental crowns are made from porcelain and zirconium, a sturdy mineral. Zirconia has a famous reputation as a material that can stimulate the toughness of diamonds. Zirconia dental crowns consist of a white zirconium core and a porcelain exterior. The porcelain makes the crown appear just like natural teeth, while the metal insides protect the crown from impact damage. Unlike the typical metal crowns, Zirconia dental crowns never show a dark metal line even if your gums recede as you age. The metal is also white, so there’s no distinguishable difference. You can benefit from the sturdiness of metal crowns and the attractiveness of porcelain crowns with this unique brand. Clinichaus dental recommends Zirconia dental crowns for replacing front teeth on the upper or lower arch. This brand is particularly useful for restoring damaged smiles. We assure top quality, high levels of accuracy, and excellent looks for this brand of the dental crown should you choose it.
E.Max Dental Crowns
E.Max dental crowns are branded all ceramic products. E.Max crowns are made from a top-grade material known as lithium disilicate ceramic. The advantage of this material is that it is supremely tough, long-lasting, and opaque. E.Max dental crowns have a translucent white appearance very similar to real teeth. These crowns are known for their strength and attractive appearance. If you are seeking dental crowns for restoring smiles, then E.Max crowns are worth considering. E.Max is a world-renowned brand when it comes to dental crowns. You can be assured of naturally shaped and colored teeth that will not be distinguishable from your normal teeth. These crowns also contain zero metal alloys. E.Max crowns are highly unlikely to fracture or crack. E.Max dental crowns are also fabulously expensive. At Clinichaus Dental, we offer the same branded E.Max dental crowns that you can find elsewhere in Europe but at lower rates. You won’t be burdened with sky-high operational costs so that you can afford the brand.
What Happens During Dental Crown?
A local anesthesia will be administered to the tooth and gum tissue around the tooth. The dentist will prepare (shape) the tooth, take the impression and place a temporary crown. Prepared tooth model will be sent to a dental laboratory. In the second visit, the dentist will cement the finished crown into place.
How Long Does It Take to Place Dental Crown?
Dental crown procedure takes for up to 2 hours in two visits. There will be 2 to 3 days between appointments.
How Long Dental Crown Last?
The dental crown lasts for up to 5 to 7 years or more depending on how well you look after it.
Will the Crown Feel Different?
The shape of the dental crown is a bit different from your original tooth before it was crowned. You may feel the difference at first, however within a few days later, you may not notice it. If you feel not comfortable, some adjustments may be done by your dentist.
